Webster Adds Cryptocurrencies in its Latest Round of New Words
Webster is one of the authorities on language in both the United States and the world over. The dictionary often makes changes to the words that are there, and usually adds new ones, while trimming the dross.
This month Merriam Webster added the word cryptocurrency and introduced a set of other words that have to do with it. The online version of the dictionary now features words such as blockchain and initial coin offering.
According to Emily Brewster, associate editor at Meriam-Webster, “In order for a word to be added to the dictionary it must have widespread, sustained, and meaningful use,”
Apparently, the fraternity of crypto roots have made it all the way to the summits of language.
